# 5. Offer and Services

Having the Space created, you can request for services offered by the PSNC's infrastructure.
The offer differs between space types, so let us quickly show how the offer looks for Students and for Scientists.

# Requesting a service as Student

  1. Firstly, you need to open the space details by clicking on the space name in the main view.

  2. At this moment, you are displayed with a view specific for a Student space. There are no active services yet, but you can apply for a service from the offer. As you can see, there is an offer for Access to HPC service for students. Let's apply for this service by clicking Navigate in the offer's box.

  3. Now you can see quite detailed information about the offer. It is worth to read it to be aware of constrains. Once done, click Activate to continue the process of application for the offered service.

  6. Now the process continues in the background to create your account on the HPC resource. It may take a while, but if everything goes smooth, you will shortly receive a confirmation that your application for the service has been accepted and the service activated.

  8. The view for specific service includes:

    • a couple of sections with detailed information about the service,
    • a drop-down list of Actions that can be performed on the service (e.g. Pause, Close),
    • a drop-down list of Go to links to main resources and tools offered by the service.

  9. Let's quickly take a look at the options available under the last element. For the requested service, we have the following options:

    • Tutorial on how to access cluster with the SSH client
    • Web interface for computations
    • Web SSH terminal

Depending on your needs and preferences, you can click the links to take advantage of the capabilities provided and actually start using the service.

# Requesting a service as Scientist

  1. Open the space details by clicking on the space name in the main view.

  2. At this moment, you are displayed with a view specific for a Scientific space. There are no active services yet, but you can apply for a service from the offer. As you can see, there are two offers available for this type of space:

    • Trial grant for Eagle cluster - allows you to try the infrastructure with the limited number of granted resources
    • Access to HPC cluster 'Eagle' for Scientists - allows you to request for a regular grant; use this option when you have a specific research work that requires significant resources.

The procedure of accessing for the Trial offer is very similar to the procedure of applying for Student's space, so let's demonstrate the second option.

  3. Now you can see quite detailed information about the offer. One of the important aspects worth noticing is that the offer is free of charge, but you will need to settle the use of the service with a list of publications. Moreover, you need to be aware that access to resources will not be granted automatically: your request will be reviewed by the chairman of Users' Council and evaluated taking into account scientific value and declared amount of requested resources. If you agree with the conditions, click Activate to continue the process of application for the offered service.

  6. Now you need to specify your preferences in regard to the grant size. Firstly, you need to select one of the three high-level options for a grant size: Small, Medium or Large. Once you have made your selection, you can further refine your expectations. For a matter of simplicity, we will select the first option with default settings.

  7. In the next step, provide additional data on the research problem, including the scientific motivation. Since the data entered will be subject to review, take care of the quality of the descriptions. Once completed, click Next step to submit the form.
